The endangered Capricorn Yellow Chat The
Capricorn Yellow Chat is the only endemic species in the Capricornia
region and was once only known from a very small population on Curtis
Island. Since then researchers at CQ University have found other
populations but the species is still far from secure. The male shown in the photo has a distinctive black breast crescent and is golden yellow on the rest of the body. They breed on marine plains in sedge beds near water. Grazing pressure on wetlands and disturbance by feral pigs have impacted on habitat and good land management is vital to maintain populations. |
